e-Wallet scheme is one of the latest additions to the IRCTC website. It allows users to deposit money in advance to their accounts and use the deposited money to book tickets on the go. This is very beneficial for frequent train travellers or IRCTC users because you need not enter your credit card details each time you wish to book a train ticket.

However, one disadvantage of this e-wallet scheme is, it can't be used during the tatkal booking period (8 AM to 12 PM), the only period when it is really useful. You also need to make a non-refundable payment of Rs. 250 to register for IRCTC e-wallet system.

  • You can avoid 'Session Expired' and 'Session Timeout' errors due to delay.
  • You can still book train tickets even if your bank website is offline.
  • It is really useful if you don't have your own credit/debit card.
  • You can pay your friend and use his card to deposit funds in your account.
